Living with Giant/Cathedral Commons Construction – Update #1

On December 19th the newly formed Construction Liaison Committee met for the first time with representatives from Bozzuto Development and the construction team managers.  Nancy MacWood was elected Chair.  Ann Hamilton is CPCA’s representative on the committee.  The most critical information to pass along is that pile driving on the North and South Blocks will begin on December 26th.  This will be a very noisy period of construction.  Steel beams are literally pounded 30 feet into the ground to re-enforce the perimeter so that excavation can occur safely and efficiently.  The pile driving will continue throughout each day (probably 7:00am -3:30pm)  of construction, and will last well into February.  The work will begin on the South Block and then move to the North Block.  Newark Street will be closed between Wisconsin and Idaho Avenues some time in January, for the duration of the construction period.

The minutes of the public meeting will be posted on and on this website in the near future.   In the meantime, you can get periodically updated construction information at  If you click on the white box near the name, you will be linked to a blog that provides more timely updates.  The ANC will be posting a URL for the blog, as well as a 24-hour phone number and email address for any complaints or concerns.  These contact numbers are to be used primarily to gather concerns that need to be addressed.  If you have information questions, please direct them to your ANC Commissioner, who can route them to the right person or connect you with one of the online information resources.  A copy of the Construction Management Agreement itself is available at (where you can also find the name of your Commissioner, if you don’t know it).

The next public meeting of the Construction Liaison Committee will be some time in January.
