Zoning Update

The Office of Planning is having a series of eight Public Outreach Meetings (one meeting in each Ward) to present their rationale for changes they propose to the Zoning Regulations. Since the Zoning Update has important implications for Cleveland Park and for the city as a whole – implications which will be with us for many years to come – it is important that citizens be as well informed as possible about the proposed Update. Several of your neighbors attended meetings in other Wards in December; the meetings are very well organized and informative. The meeting in Ward 3 is scheduled for Tuesday, January 8th, from 6:30 – 8:30 pm at Wilson High School, 3950 Chesapeake St. NW (1 block east of the Tenleytown Metro, Red line).

All meetings are intended to be city-wide, with the same basic information presented at each meeting, and people are welcome to attend the meeting that works best for their schedule. So if you can’t make it on January 8th, please try to make one of the other January meetings in other Wards:

  • Saturday, January 5th, 10am -12 noon (Ward 1) at H. Tubman School, 3101 13th St. NW (1 block east of the Columbia Heights Metro, Green and Yellow lines)
  • Wednesday, January 9th, 6:30 – 8:30pm (Ward 5) at Foster Auditorium, Ely Building, Gallaudet University., 800 Florida Ave. NE (5 blocks east of the NY Ave / Gallaudet Metro, Red line)
  • Saturday, January 12th, 10am – 12 noon (Ward 7) at DOES Building, 4058 Minnesota Ave. NE, Room 2309/10 (next to Minnesota Metro, Green line)
  • Wednesday, January 16th, 6:30 – 8:30 pm (Ward 4) at Takoma Education Campus, 7010 Piney Branch Road NW (3 blocks west of Takoma Metro, Red line).

If you can attend any or all of these events, your presence and voice will make a significant difference in how the Re-write of the Zoning Regulations plays out.

In addition, Council Members Cheh and Bowser will be discussing the Zoning Update (and other things) at a meeting of the Chevy Chase Citizens Association on Tuesday, January 15th at 7:30pm, at the corner of Connecticut Avenue and McKinley Street.
